Welcome to my-fire, free Monte Carlo Retirement Simulator
FIRE = Financial Independence Retire Early
About
Thinking about retirement was not something that ever seemed very real to me. Unlike many colleagues and friends I did not have a definitive age mapped out and a bucket list of things I planned to do. At the age of 56, and 30 plus years working developing microchip technology, I realized my work had become quite mundane and having kids later in life who are ages 10 and 13, I realized I wanted to spend time with them. I found myself scouring the web for advice and calculators to reassure me that I had enough saved to last a lifetime. I quickly became frustrated as the calculators did not have all the options I needed for my situation. My kids still need to get through college, I have a property I plan on selling, and have Medical Insurance costs pre-medicare.
The Monte Carlo Simulations I came across mostly needed subscription services to unlock more useful content, and it was not really clear to me what they were doing under the hood. For example inflation is a skew and not normal distribution and I was not sure if that was being accounted for. In the end I decided to write my own. How hard could it be? I had no experience of Javascript, or even how to go about putting together a website, but I do have some programming background and an enthusiasm to solve problems. In then end it turned out not to be so hard and the basic development only took a couple of weeks. This is the result. I hope you find this useful and come back once in a while to see how your financial situation is progressing.
Please feel free to send me any comments. I'd like to update and improve where I can.
Good Luck,
